10 Answer Keys, Effective Business Networking

Networking grows increasingly complex with the explosion of social media channels and technology. In turn, what worked in the days of our parents and grandparents to bring people together may not be enough today.  We wanted to give you some key ideas, skills and tools to improve the quality of your networking efforts.

Networking is not rocket science but people science. Knowing who you want to help and then finding ways to connect to those people who are looking for that help. Networking is the lifeblood of a successful business and those who master it reap fantastic results.

I naively thought that networking met shaking hands at cocktail parties, handing out business cards, and making small talk. I attended chambers of commerce events, women speed-networking breakfasts, and government business development workshops, but I wasn’t increasing my professional speaking opportunities. As a speaker on leadership, I had to find and develop contacts. My approach wasn’t working. One day at yet another networking event, I watched Mary Erlain in action. I realized that she did so much more than work the room. She opened my eyes to strategic alliance building. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to have her as a coach, and I have watched my business triple. Not everyone has the opportunity to have Mary or Meredith as a coach. Thankfully, they have published this book. It’s practical, down-to-earth, and gives the reader solid advice. I love the checklist approach. The book is for the busy professional who relies on others for business. Isn’t that most of us?
